Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Chips

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (You can use milk, dark, or white chocolate chips based on preference.)

Optional Add-Ins

  • ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts)
  • White chocolate chips
  • Sea salt (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by vanilla extract, ensuring everything is well combined.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients

  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing.

Fold in Chocolate Chips

  • Stir Gently: Using a spatula, fold in the chocolate chips (and any optional add-ins) until evenly distributed.

Scoop and Bake

  • Scoop Dough: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked, which is perfect for chewy cookies.

Cool and Serve

  • Cool on a Wire Rack: Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve: Enjoy warm for gooey chocolate or at room temperature for a classic cookie experience.
